Middle and Upper School students visit United Nations Headquarters to prepare for global diplomacy simulation

On Monday, eighth grade, ninth grade, and Global Issues students traveled together for Stuart's first visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

This trip comes in conjunction with an exciting, upcoming project for History 8 and History 9 students. During a full day special schedule at the end of May, these classes will gather together to take part in a United Nations simulation. As part of their classwork, students will learn about parliamentary procedure, produce country profiles, and research different countries' positions on a global crisis. On the day of the simulation, students will represent these countries' views as they produce and debate proposals, vote on possible solutions to conflict, and to experience what it is like to do the work of the United Nations.

In order to prepare them for this major project, students took a tour of the United Nations facilities. They learned about the building’s art and architecture, the history of the organization, and the types of work that the UN undertakes in the world today.

It was an exciting opportunity for our students to gain powerful insight into the work of international diplomacy. An inspiring experience for our future leaders!
