Congratulations to the Class of 2024!

Congratulations to the Class of 2024!

On Saturday, June 8, the Stuart Class of 2024 embarked on a new chapter as Stuart graduates!

For the 2024 Commencement exercises, Senior Class President J'vonae Fitchett opened with remarks for her classmates, emphasizing their growth and future potential: "Through supporting backstage with the middle and lower schoolers, assisting our Stuart sisters through the STEM and Writing Center, leading our teammates on the court, field, stage, and track, or just remaining engaged during school assemblies, each person on this stage has used their unique skills and abilities to lead others."

In her remarks, J'vonae also took a moment to honor their friend and classmate, Leila Washington, who passed away this spring: "She, like all the individuals on this stage, has made a tremendous impact on the Stuart community. I watched my classmates show true leadership in their community through grief and trying times. Although she is not on this stage with us today, I know she is present in our hearts and we are all grateful to have experienced Stuart with Leila."

Lavanya Seshasayee, the Senior Class Speaker, reflected on their shared experiences, which began with COVID and ended with a stronger unity among them: "Four years ago, we began this journey together and through the years, we’ve built a family. Our years together have been marked by laughter, tears, triumphs and trials. But today, we stand together on this stage, in our highly specified dress code attire (thx miss k), Stuart rings on our fingers, all ready to take this next step into a new chapter of our lives."

Commencement speaker Stephanie Champi '12, offered inspiring insights from her post-Stuart experiences, encouraging the graduates to stay curious and engaged: "Keep learning and asking questions. The world is constantly changing, so stay engaged with what is going on." She also emphasized the importance of civic engagement: "Get proximate to the communities that you wish to serve. This understanding and involvement can lead to significant change and is a powerful way to use your education to make a real difference."

Head of School Julia Wall drew from her childhood memories among the Redwoods in Oakland, CA to share a powerful metaphor about the strength of interconnected roots: "Parents, you have given your graduates an amazing gift, a system of interconnected roots that will, at times, motivate them to accelerate their growth, and at times, allow them to lean on others for strength. Our children, like the Redwoods, are mighty and powerful forces that are strengthened and supported by this community of interconnected people and its abiding mission."

The ceremony included the conferring of diplomas, with each graduate recognized for their unique and collective contributions, highlighting the diverse talents within the class. Layna Tarbotton led the ceremonial turning of the rings before turning the program over to Lillian Soroken, who closed with a prayer: "United in love and celebration, let us open our hearts in gratitude and reflection... Congratulations, Class of 2024. Enjoy the endless summer of opportunities that now become our lives!"
