Chemistry students learn the science behind fragrances during visit to Firmenich

Chemistry students had an amazing opportunity to attend a field trip at Firmenich, one of the major producers of fragrance and flavor ingredients in the world. Various chemists spoke to the students about the process of creating a new scent and the various technologies being used. Students tested their senses by identifying unknown scents, and they were also able to taste a vegan chicken nugget infused with a flavor invented and engineered at Firmenich. Students had a chance to tour the facilities; they saw labs and chemists at work, a salon where the strength of shampoos is tested, and a laundry, where the strength of the detergent scent was tested. At the laundry, the students learned about scent releasing technology that can last for many weeks. The trip was very engaging and informative, and a fun time for our students!
