AP Chemistry students explore innovations in chemistry at Princeton University

Stuart's proximity to Princeton University opens doors for our students to witness academic innovation in action and to envision a future for their own work in similar fields. Recently, AP Chemistry students spent the day in the chemistry department at Princeton University hosted by Stuart parent Paul Chirik, who is the Edwards S. Sanford Professor of Chemistry. They attended a lecture on Quantum Mechanics of the Atom and witnessed a thermite reaction demo. Following the lecture, students toured the graduate level labs and saw a variety of chemists at work. The class had an opportunity to sit down with Professor Chirik to discuss a variety of topics like sustainable chemistry and how heavy metals are used in medicine, as well as developments in chemistry and how molecular geometry affects reaction outcomes.
