Middle School speech and debate student named Best Overall Delegate at Model UN conference

On Friday, the Stuart Middle School speech and debate team traveled to Christian Brothers Academy to participate in their 13th annual Middle School Model UN Conference, joining approximately twelve other schools and two hundred students. Leading up to the event, Stuart girls researched topics including the civil war in Sudan, the Western Sahara–Morocco conflict, biotechnology use and development, immigration reform, biodiversity and rainforest protection, and the papal conclave in order to participate in simulations of the United Nations (and Papal Conclave).

Students wrote preparatory papers outlining potential solutions to the issues at hand and spent the afternoon in discussion, dialogue, and debate to develop compromises that could bring diverse perspectives to consensus—no easy task. All of the girls represented Stuart proudly, with seventh grader Elaine Yan winning Best Overall Delegate for her committee.

Congratulations, Elaine!
