On Friday, April 4, Lower and Middle School students set out on a new mission for our annual Goal 3 Day - Race to Love 💚.
Students discovered their service destinations that morning and headed out across Mercer County to partner with local organizations. Through direct service, students explored social justice issues such as poverty, hunger, disability rights, healthcare inequity, and access to education.
Some of the activities included: packing 301 bags of food for pregnant women, creating packs of diapers, prepping gardens for a spring bounty, writing letters of kindness and visiting with the elderly, and serving food to those in need. These experiences remind us that the work we do as educators—offering students meaningful, hands-on ways to serve—helps them see beyond themselves and recognize that their impact can be both immediate and long-lasting, local and far-reaching.
Developing strong relationships with external partners is vital to offering student experiences that evolve and remain responsive to the needs of the world. These meaningful connections deepen students’ understanding of justice and empower them to take action.
