Stuart names new STEM Curriculum Coordinator

We are pleased to announce that Amy Schorr has been named Stuart's STEM Curriculum Coordinator for grades 5 through 12.

In addition to her role as a Middle School science teacher, Ms. Schorr will support STEM faculty through peer observation, coaching, and mentoring; collaborate on curriculum development and assessment practices across divisions; serve on the Curriculum and Information Services Committees as well as the Strategic Planning Steering Committee; and help ensure that Stuart's STEM program reflects both best research-based practices and the Goals and Criteria of the Sacred Heart. 

Since 2023, Ms. Schorr has taught fifth and sixth grade science and will remain in the classroom. Like the sign on her wall says, "Amazing things happen here." Her classroom has been a place where students dissect frogs, launch water rockets, conduct creek studies, and engage in the kind of inquiry-driven learning that builds a community of curious, critical thinkers. She has coached the Middle School Science Bowl team, organized interdisciplinary learning experiences through project-based learning and community partnerships, and served this past year as Middle School Service and Retreat Coordinator, organizing Goal 3 Day experiences and building connections across the Sacred Heart Network. In recognition of her work in this area, Ms. Schorr earned the faculty and staff Goal 3 Award, which is one of five Sacred Heart awards given to members of the faculty and staff and voted on by colleagues.

Prior to joining Stuart, Ms. Schorr taught science at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, where she also served as Dean of Student Activities and coordinated a service learning trip to the Philippines. During her time there, she received the Father PJ Rice Award, given to a teacher who goes above and beyond for students. She holds a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in chemistry with a minor in biology and a Master of Arts in education and curriculum from Michigan State University.

Ms. Schorr brings genuine enthusiasm for her colleagues and their work, sharing, "I am constantly inspired by the innovative teaching and learning happening across our classrooms and by the dedication of my colleagues. This opportunity allows me to support and celebrate the outstanding work of our STEM faculty while helping us continue to grow together as educators."
