Congratulations to sophomores Chloe Zhu and Selena Meng and freshman Shirley Xie on their recent recognition in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Chloe Zhu won a Gold Key Award in the drawing and illustration category for her work entitled "The Vestige." The Gold Key is given to the very best works submitted to local programs and these works are automatically considered for national-level recognition. The Gold Key works will be on exhibit at the Montclair Art Museum.
Selena and Shirley both received honorable mention for their works, which represents accomplished works that show great skill and potential. Selena's work, "Kitchen" was a drawing in the architecture and industrial design category and Shirley received honorable mention for her photographs, "The Dragonhead" and "Under the Lights."
Congratulations to all three students whose works were recognized by a panel of creative professionals as the most outstanding work submitted among their peers. Since 1923, the Awards have recognized some of America's most celebrated artists while they were teenagers, including Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Idelle Weber, Ken Burns, Paul Chan and Kay Walking Stick.
