We are pleased to announce that Mr. Joseph Hurford will be the Upper School Dean of Students for the 2018-19 school year. Mr. Hurford will be teaching math courses in addition to taking on the new responsibilities of US Dean. Mr. Hurford has been teaching at Stuart for three years and has been one of the Senior Class Advisors since September. Mr. Hurford, described as approachable and understanding, with a solid understanding of the student body and school culture, is looking forward to this opportunity to embrace duties beyond those of a classroom teacher. Students and faculty alike praise him for his calm and grounded demeanor which is augmented by his wonderful sense of humor.
One of Mr. Hurford's advisees said of Mr. Hurford, "I have seen first-hand the compatibility between him and all of the students he comes into contact with. . . it is clear that Mr. Hurford is also very passionate in making the high school experience less hectic for Stuart girls and plans to focus on student mental health and wellness. I know the position will be tough, but I have no doubt that Mr. Hurford will surpass all expectations."
While we welcome Mr. Hurford, we also must thank Mr. Sean Malloy for his outstanding work as this year's Dean of Students. Mr. Malloy has decided to return to the classroom full time to continue teaching microeconomics and STEM courses.
