Indoor track breaks school record and earns season bests at Princeton Invitational

Stuart's indoor track team officially opened its season at Princeton's historic Jadwin Gym with the goal to get experience and get healthy after a holiday break.

The young team did exactly that as they already broke a school record and achieved many personal bests.

Heather Kwafo established a new long jump record breaking her sister Michelle's school record (and keeping the title in the family). See below for the video of her jump. Also in the jumps, freshman Jadyn Piotrowski earned a personal record in the long jump and the 55m. Cara Carr had a personal best in the triple jump and the 55 hurdles.

After receiving some advice from alumna Alison Walsh, the school record holder in the high jump, Michaela Meyer came within 2" of beating the record (a great sign of Stuart spirit). Michaela also had a personal record in the 55 hurdles as did fellow high jumper Audrey Blandford who also had a PR in the high jump.

Other freshmen with personal bests (and a bright future ahead) were Jaelyn Bennett in the 400 and 800 m and Trinity Broughton in the 400 and 200m.

Newcomers with personal records were Emerlee Simon in the 400 and 800 and Lia Bull Kreig in the 800 and sprints. Both girls are just coming back from injury and will make a big difference by preps.

Sophia Scheulov had a personal record in the 55m. Veterans achieving personal records were Alex Ottomanelli in the 55 hurdles and 200m and captain Priscilla Francois in the 400 and 200m. Priscilla won her heat in the 400m and had a season best. Nora Flamer also won her heat in the 55m, and will give the team depth and experience. Aditi Mehndiratta had a personal record in the 55m, and Melanie Burgess is getting back in shape in the 800m. Recovering from winter illnesses were talented Noelia Manion and Holly Zhuang.

In the shot put, Taj'hanna Tyson had a season best while teammates Sarah Girgis and Caroline Letrent were away and Olivia Giblin and Kathryn IX off.

The team hopes to build on this beginning by applying lessons. We thank the parents for staying late and driving. The next meet will be Saturday at a 40-team Lavino Relays at Lawrenceville Prep. Click here for photos.
