*UPDATE - May 17, 2018: Stuart's Varsity Track and Field Team has been officially named by NJISAA as a 2018 NJ Prep B Girls Track and Field co-champion. The co-champion designation was made on appeal of points earned based on NJISAA rules and regulations as they apply to the Prep B Championships held at Newark Academy on Monday, May 7, 2018. We share the title with Villa Walsh Academy.

Seniors Michelle Kwafo and Alison Walsh earn record state championship titles

For Stuart's track and field team, Monday, May 7 was a record-setting day at the NJ Prep B Championships held at Newark Academy, where every athlete, every inch and each one-hundredth of a second made a difference. Senior Michelle Kwafo led the team, taking first place in three events: 100m, 200m, and 100mH, setting two new school records and one stadium best. Kwafo will graduate Stuart with eight state titles, the most ever garnered by a Stuart athlete. Senior Alison Walsh took home her third Prep-B state title in the high jump, having won the indoor title both this year and last. The exciting day for Stuart's track and field team culminated with the final event and a big win from the 4x400m relay team of sophomore Alex Ottomanelli, senior Kendra Brenya, sophomore Jasmine Hansford and junior Priscilla Francois. On a day where literally every fraction of a second mattered, the Stuart team narrowly came in second place with 115.50 points to Villa Walsh's 116.50.

In addition to the outstanding performances of Kwafo, Walsh, and the relay team, Francois set a school record in the 400 individual hurdles, taking second place, and a personal best in the 100 hurdles, earning third. Additionally: Hansford scored in three events; Ottomanelli had a special day with a personal best and fourth place in the 400 individual hurdles; Freshman Misha Meyer scored in the high jump; sophomore Nora Flamer was the lead off on the second place 4X100m. On the weight team: sophomore Taj'hanna Tyson come off the disabled list to take second in the shot put with a big personal best; senior Marisa Lewis took third in the javelin with a personal best; throwing mates senior Madeleine Michaels and senior Dhymond Revan gave their all, coming very close to scoring. Just as important were the personal best of seniors Sonia Mohandas in the 800m and Eloise Yang in the 400m, and freshman Olivia Giblin in the 200m. Senior Kerstin Carroll ran another excellent 800m.

Congratulations to the entire team and their coaches Gary Dura, Nancy Klepack, Leonard Klepack, who all contributed to the outstanding team effort at Monday's NJ Prep B State Championship meet.
