The Stuart Indoor Track and Field Team had its best Prep B Championship in its history. Stuart scored in all 10 events on the way to earning a third straight championship title at Lawrenceville on Saturday. It was a complete TEAM victory.
Senior Heather Kwafo won the 55m and the 200m with a personal best. She also scored in the 55m hurdles with a personal best.
Fellow senior Alex Ottomanelli won the 55m hurdles and the 800m. She was also the anchor of the 1600m relay team that won the event and set a school record. Other members of the relay team also had personal achievements: Cara Carr had personal bests and scored in the 400m and 55m hurdles; Trinity Broughton and Jadyn Piotrowski both had a personal best and scored in the 400m.
In the high jump, the school record-holders Audrey Blandford and Misha Meyer got major points as they took first and second in the event.
Senior Caroline Mullen had personal bests and scored in both the 1600m and the 3200m. Melanie Burgess had a personal best and scored in the 3200m.
Lia Bull-Krieg had a big personal best and scored in the 55m.
Senior captain Sarah Girgis had a big personal best in the shot put as did newcomer Janiah Adams, earning 10 big points for their team.
Sophia Scheulov had a personal best in the 800m as she keeps improving each race.
The true character of this 2020 indoor track team was shown by senior Emerlee Simons and junior Olivia Giblin. Emerlee (who won the 400m and 200m last year) scored in the 55m and the 200m after coming back from the flu; Olivia was under the weather but was there for the team just in case they needed a back-up in the relay. That is true team spirit.
