The Arts Department at Stuart is committed to giving our students the best and most authentic experience even during a pandemic. Therefore, we embarked on a creative journey to bring a musical to life. Women of Broadway is a musical compilation of strong female character solos and several ensemble numbers. The cast and crew of 45 Upper School students, led by a collaborative artistic team, have created a spectacular musical revue. It was recorded and filmed in order to be COVID compliant and it will be streamed on March 11 at 7 PM. Some musical favorites will include: "Steam Heat," "Anything Goes," "Dancing Queen," "Another Opening Another Show" as well as solo songs from "Dear Evan Hansen," "13: The Musical," "My Fair Lady," "Avenue Q," and more. There are 21 performances by our very talented Upper School students. As one of the very few area schools who have attempted to create theatre and music, we are immensely proud of our work.
Music Director Mrs. Kelsey Lewis along with Audio Producer Zachary Gates recorded each singer separately in an isolated studio setting. Each individual recording was then edited together to recreate the ensemble numbers. Each ensemble was performed on stage with masks as they lip synched to their own voices. Choreographer Kristen Smith and Dance Captain Kristen Zosche rehearsed students for several weeks. Seniors recorded the Introductions to every number. Junior and senior cast members each performed a solo number. We added camera angles and excitement to every number under the artistic vision of Andrew Wilkinson, and alumna Sarah Pierpont '04 who both mentored our own stage crew students, Shirley Xie, Mia Zebrauskis, Sarah Glickson, Sarah Nagarkatti. Stage lighting and stage design were completed by Walt Cupit and Robert Rutt and implemented by Sydney Amato, Sam DiNino, Lauren Gracias and Lucy Simon.
