Stuart Alum Develops National Listing of Food Banks

Following the economic and social challenges faced by the community, Nicole Andrzejczyk '12 was one of the graduate and medical students from the University of California, Riverside who created the Inland Empire COVID-19 Medical Student Taskforce. As one of their projects, they have developed an online, nationwide map listing food bank locations that are still operating throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. For each location, the website provides hours, contact information, and any special instructions provided by the food bank. Although the primary focus has been Southern California, the map is being expanded nationwide. The website can be accessed at Aside from the food bank website, they have also been volunteering at local COVID-19 screening call centers, creating informational public outreach materials, collecting supplies for local hospitals, along with many other tasks.

Nicole Andrzejczyk '12 received her B.S. in Biology from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2016. She went on to pursue her PhD in Environmental Toxicology at the University of California, Riverside where she has been using next-generation sequencing to study the toxicity of various environmental contaminants on wildlife and human health. She will be completing her degree in June 2020 and plans to pursue a career in life sciences or consulting.
