In over 35 years, Loaves and Fishes has grown into a week-long study on food scarcity and living out Goal 3 in our daily lives

Stuart's community-wide effort for Loaves and Fishes is now a week-long program that extends beyond just one day of service. This was the second year for the new school-wide format, which included Goal 3 Days in the Lower and Middle Schools and a lemonade sale in Early Childhood.

The Lower School held a Goal 3 Day with activities that ranged from making scarves and melted crayon molds to learning about food scarcity and how it impacts people in our community. The students also heard from junior Samantha Humbles who has been attending Loaves and Fishes for six years and recently earned her Gold Award in Girl Scouts by designing a curriculum for ages 2-14 called Loaves and Fishes for Kids.

On the Thursday before Loaves and Fishes, the Early Childhood girls and boys raised money at their lemonade sale to purchase gloves for the guests.

In the week leading up to Loaves and Fishes, students, parents and faculty/staff dropped off contributions of food, money, toiletries, and more. At the end of the week, Middle School girls used all of the donations to prepare over 1,000 sandwich lunches and 155 toiletry bags. Students reflected on food access and discussed issues of food scarcity.

Our efforts culminated on Saturday when students, parents, faculty and staff came to St. Mary's Cathedral to help serve the meal, distribute lunches, coats, hats and gloves, and help out in countless ways. All together the Stuart community also collected more than $850 for Loaves and Fishes. Goal 3 is truly alive and well in the Stuart community!
