Stuart’s community enjoys many rich traditions. Some are steeped in the Sacred Heart experience and are universal to all Network schools. Others are particular to Stuart itself. Many echo the philosophy of the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria. At Stuart, students and faculty learn, love and laugh together and have a pride in their school that comes through in the celebration of these events. Follow the links below to learn more about each.
Visiting Author Program
Each year in April a prominent author visits Stuart for a full day to share their expertise on the craft of writing with students of all age, grades kindergarten through 12. The entire school becomes involved, and faculty members embrace and honor the work of the author and spend months preparing students for Visiting Author Day. The result is a truly unique and magical day. Visiting Authors have included Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon (2009), best-selling novelist Jonathan Safran Foer (2010), and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri (2011).
Each September Stuart honors the rich international diversity of our community in our annual Flag Ceremony. First and second generation students, faculty, and staff, representing over 40 countries participate in this truly exquisite and uniquely Stuart tradition. It serves as a powerful reminder that different nations can live and work together in peace and harmony.
Green and White Day
Green and White Day is a time for students and faculty to don their green or white shirts and enjoy an afternoon of healthy competition designed to build unity and school spirit.
Junior Ring Ceremony
Held mid-year, the Junior Ring Ceremony is the most memorable event for Upper School students. In a candlelight ceremony, junior students are presented with their school rings.
Christmas at Stuart
Prior to Christmas Break, each of the divisions at Stuart celebrates Christmas. The Lower School celebration features songs and readings, including a performance by the Stuart hand-bell choir. Called Evensong, The Middle and Upper School celebration is a liturgical service featuring The TartanTones, Stuart's vocal ensemble. Readings and prayers are interspersed with carols, anthems and instrumental offerings, in an elegant, candle-lit event with festive decorations in Cor Unum.
Women We Admire Day
Stuart celebrates Women’s History month with a special day devoted to “Women We Admire.” Students in the Lower School research a woman they highly regard, and share their findings on her life and accomplishments in a “Talking Museum” where each girl dresses as her subject.
