Maritza Maxwell '88, founder of Hatch, an online handmade gifts boutique

Maritza Maxwell is a 2023 inductee into the Stuart Alumnae Gallery.

After graduating from Amherst College and earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts, Maritza went on to attend Bryn Mawr College, earning a master's degree in art history. Following that, she worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and then started her own business, Hatch, that focuses on creating high-quality, handmade objects at affordable prices.

In addition to creating and selling her own work, Maritza also shares her passion for art with others through private classes and instruction. She noted that she started Hatch to pass along the joy that she has in creating beautiful things, to teach new skills, and to reinforce skills that are dormant in us all.

Maritza is on the Board of the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina, and is happily married with two beautiful children. Maritza exemplifies what it means to be a Stuart woman, and reflects how leadership can be demonstrated in the world of the arts.
