Ingrid Schmiederer ‘05, Advanced MIS/Robotic General Surgeon

After graduating from Stuart in 2005, Ingrid attended Johns Hopkins University. She  majored in history while completing pre-med requirements and immersing herself in classics, inspired by four years of Latin with Faige. Lonstein. A college internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital revealed her true calling—not just in science but in caring for people, especially the most vulnerable.

She served with City Year in a Philadelphia high school, deepening her commitment to justice and equity. As a One Oman Scholar at Drexel University College of Medicine, Ingrid pursued surgery, drawn to its technical demands and the privilege of helping patients through life’s most critical moments.

She completed her general surgery residency at New York-Presbyterian Queens—serving on the front lines during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—and earned a fellowship in surgical education at Stanford University. Today, after completing fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic, she practices as a general surgeon in the Cleveland area, combining advocacy, empathy, and surgical skill in every encounter.

Ingrid credits Stuart with nurturing her discipline, curiosity, and confidence—and for giving her a foundation of intellectual and spiritual strength. In a male-dominated field, she has built a career defined by excellence and  integrity. She carries the spirit of Stuart into every operating room—guided by the same values that first took root in the green brick halls of Stuart.
