Stuart Parent Association
The Stuart Parent Association (SPA), organized in 1971, serves to encourage the parents' interest in the school and to further communication among parents, students, faculty and administration. Its intent is to enhance the quality of our children's lives by providing opportunities for enrichment and support for both students and parents. All parents become members of SPA when they pay the annual dues of $40 per child (included in the tuition billing).
The work of SPA is led by the Executive Council, consisting of SPA's elected officers and the headmistress. The Executive Council, which meets monthly, coordinates events and supports the school in many areas. The elected officers serve for a term of two years.
The President serves for a term of one year and runs the meetings, serves as liaison to the Administration, and serves ex-officio on the Board of Trustees. The President Elect serves for a term of one year as a President in training and becomes President of the Association the following year. The Immediate Past President serves for a term of one year as an advisor to the President. The Treasurer is responsible for the management of SPA's finances, which include the SPA dues plus all the receipts from fundraising activities. The Secretary is responsible for keeping the minutes of the meetings and also for correspondence.
There are four Vice Presidents on the Executive Council. The VP/Communications works with the Public Relations office, keeping parents aware of happenings at Stuart. The VP/Education works with the Development and Public Relations offices, making parents aware of information on educational and developmental issues as well as Common Ground events. The VP/Outreach oversees the organization and follow-through of SPA's outreach efforts and informs the Stuart community of volunteer outreach opportunities. The VP/Volunteers is responsible for coordinating parent volunteers for the many events at Stuart.
There are two School Representatives from each division: Pre-School, Lower, Middle and Upper. Their two-year terms are staggered to ensure continuity. The School Representatives serve as liaisons between the parents, Class Parents, Heads of Schools and the Executive Council.
