Community Outreach Opportunities

Posted November 5, 2009

There are a number of community outreach opportunities at Stuart during this giving time of year. Please consider giving to one of the following projects:

Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Thanksgiving food drive collections benefitting Mt.Carmel Guild are on their way! Thanks to all the generous Stuart families who have donated. If you missed the drop off deadline on Tuesday, November 10, 9:00 a.m., you can still contribute by sending a monetary donation or making a food delivery directly to:

Mount Carmel Guild, 73 North Clinton Avenue Trenton, NJ 08609-1097 - Phone: 609-392-5159.

Coat Drive
The Stuart Parent Association will be conducting a coat drive beginning Wednesday, October 28th. Please consider donating a gently used coat {jackets, snow-suits, and coats} that you no longer need to the coat drive. You will have the satisfaction that your coat will keep someone warm this winter! We are looking for coats of all sizes, especially women's large and extra large, however all coats donated will be appreciated and will be put to good use. We will be collecting coats until Thanksgiving break begins on November 20th. Please look for the "Coat Drive" labeled bins located at the school drop-off and pick-up locations.

Used Shoe Drive
Stuart will be collecting used shoes for One World Running, www.oneworldrunning.blogspot.com. The shoes can be ANY used shoe for all ages that are sturdy. Soccer cleats, teva-type sandles, tennis shoes, merrills, etc are all good (no high heels, please). These shoes will be collected, shipped to Boulder, Co where One World Running sorts, cleans and sends them off to areas in need, such as Africa, South America and even areas of the US. The shoes that are not acceptable are recycled through the Nike program. Last year's shoes (we collected over 300 pairs) went to remote villages in Belize and this years collection will be off to Haiti. Children in Haiti need footwear to attend schools. Our shoes will be collected from October 15 - December 15th. Look for the big boxes outside the gym and in the MSRC.

Christmas Sharing Program
In the spirit of love and giving at Christmas time, Stuart has traditionally been involved with Martin House in their "Christmas Sharing Program". For this project, Stuart families sponsor a child or family from Martin House by purchasing at least one toy and at least one article of clothing for each child. There are many families in need this year and we as a Stuart community would like to support them as best we can. Registration forms may be obtained in the Lower School office.
