It was an outstanding day for Stuart runners on Saturday at the Carnegie 5K supporting The Parkinson Alliance. Starting with eighth grader Charlotte Bednar who, as a 13-year-old, was the first woman to cross the finish line and came in 6th place overall with an incredible time of 19:14! Watch Charlotte cross the finish line below.
Other Stuart runners showed true Sacred Heart spirit as senior Sonia Mohandas and junior Grace Sheppard slowed down to help a young runner in minor distress. Even so, race results were impressive for the Stuart girls as juniors Alexandra Rounds, Miranda Maley and Grace Sheppard, senior Sonia Mohandas and sophomore Jasmine Hansford took the first five places in their age group. Fifth grader Victoria Reece took first place in her age group. Freshman Melanie Burgess took home a third place trophy in her age group while Miranda, Jasmine, sophomore Alex Ottomanelli, and junior Sharon Song made it onto the all-time top 20 for the Carnegie course. Meanwhile, Allie Burgess came back from illness to complete her first race of the season, Kathryn Ix had a personal best for 5000 meters, and Diana Tian had her best time of the season. With a great group of parents cheering and supporting our girls, it was a great race day for everyone! See photos from the race in the gallery or in the slideshow below.
