Community Service –
Lower School

Community Service is an integral part of the Stuart curriculum. A child in the Lower School is introduced to the concept of giving at an early age and shown the rewards of contributing in a positive way to her community.

The concept of community begins with the school and expands to encompass the world. Lower School students assist each other in classroom activities on a regular basis (the fourth grade assists in the Pre-School at Stuart, and the fifth grade assists in kindergarten). Each month the students participate in a special community service project. They collect food for the Loaves and Fishes Community Dinner in Trenton several times during the year. Thanksgiving brings the annual tradition of collecting food for The Mt. Carmel Guild, and at Christmas time and Lent, the students collect funds in mite boxes that are then donated to The Holy Childhood Association.

Lower School students also support local agencies such as Martin House and HomeFront in Trenton. In addition, they support our Stuart Summer programs by participating in several "Dress Down Days" during the year. ON these occasions students pay $1 to wear play clothes instead of the school uniform. The proceeds from the "Talking Museum" held each year as part of Women We Admire Day, are given to a designated charity of their choice.

Through the Community Service program, Stuart's very young learners experience the joy and satisfaction of moving beyond their own personal, immediate needs to meeting the needs of others in their community and the world.
