Traditional Events

The following events are held regularly and it is hoped that parents will attend whenever possible.
Pre and Lower School Parents' Nights are held during the second week of school.  It is the time when parents meet their child's teacher and are given an explanation of what will be happening in the classroom during the year.
A Parent-Child Party is usually held in the fall for all Pre and Lower School families;  the type of party varies from year-to-year.  It is an opportunity for parents or special relatives or friends to spend an afternoon specially with their child(ren).
The Halloween Parade is a time when the children dress up in their costumes, walk through the school and parade in the gym.  It is followed by a short Halloween program given by the children.
A Special Family Get-Together is held in late February for all Pre and Lower School children and their families.
A Science Fair is held every other year.  Participation is voluntary.
A Lower School Musical is given by Grade 5 in early May.  There is a performance for parents on a Saturday night and one for other guests on Sunday afternoon.
Grandparents' Day is a wonderful half-day in May when the children share what they have been doing at Stuart with their grandparents or special relative or family friend. 
Field Day is held during the month of May and is a time of races and other field events for Grades 3-5.
The Pre-School Teddy Bear Picnic is held in May for all students, parents, and siblings.
Conge is a surprise holiday when students and faculty enjoy a break from their classroom routine and share a special outing together.
Green and  White Day is held during the school year and is a day when all the students enjoy an all-school picnic followed by an afternoon of friendly competition.
Prize Day, the last day of school, is a traditional day in all Sacred Heart Schools.  For "Prizes," the children wear party dresses and each child receives an award in at least one area in which she has excelled or has made significant improvement during the year.  Parents and friends are invited to attend this special ceremony.

SPECIAL TERMS

"Dress-up days" are special days during the year on which the children wear dresses, skirts and blouses or nice pants outfits instead of their uniforms.  The Veni Emmanuel Service, the day that Christmas vacation begins and Prize Day are "dress-up days".
"Dress-down days" are days on which the children may wear appropriate play clothes. These days support our Community Service outreach programs and are announced in the Lower School Highlights.
"Goûter" is a French word meaning "to taste."  In Sacred Heart schools, it refers to a snack and recreation time.  The school provides a small snack of crackers and milk.  If a more substantial mid-morning snack is needed for a child, parents are requested to send a nutritious snack in with her.
