Message from the Headmistress

We are so pleased to welcome you to Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, one of a few schools in the greater New Jersey area dedicated to the education of girls.

Stuart is founded on the concept it is the whole child who must be educated and through such well-formed persons the whole world most effectively can be made better. The school’s intent and vision focus on academic excellence, a spirit of community, and a commitment to service. Stuart is one of twenty-one members of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools in the United States and a member of the international family of schools and organizations directed by the Society of the Sacred Heart, a global community spanning six continents. Consistent with those ties, Stuart’s mission includes a commitment to diversity. We welcome students of any race, creed, social, economic, or ethnic background, believing a multiplicity of companions and ideas is the essence of an effective learning experience and the best preparation for success in our increasingly complex world.

Founded in 1963, Stuart is part of a rich Sacred Heart tradition dating back to the turn of the 19 th century. In 1800 St. Madeleine Sophie Barat of France founded The Society of the Sacred Heart with the goal of educating women. Brought to the United States in 1818 by Mother Philippine Duchesne, Stuart is committed to the Goals and Criteria derived from St. Madeleine Sophie’s original concept of education. As they have for 200 years, Sacred Heart women positively influence the world by thinking critically, acting with courage and compassion, and manifesting an informed and lively faith.

I invite you to explore our website and learn more about Sacred Heart education and the Stuart experience. I also encourage you to come visit us and see for yourself what Stuart has to offer for you and your child.
