In 2010, Stuart joined the Online School for Girls (OSG), a nationwide consortium of independent all-girls’ schools, in creating the first ever online school dedicated to secondary education for girls. OSG is guided by current research on how girls learn best, focusing on several key principles: emphasizing connections among participants, incorporating collaboration into the learning experience, inspiring and rewarding creativity, and engaging in real-world problems and applications while having students probe the social and ethical dynamics that define and stretch our global society. OSG inspires girls worldwide to reach their potential by offering exceptional instruction in an online setting, which challenges girls through vigorous coursework and exposure to new ideas in a fun, engaging, and relevant learning environment.
Online education is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of the educational experience of the 21st Century. Believing that girls’ schools are the most powerful, transformative learning environments for girls and that girls inhabit online spaces differently than boys, OSG launched in September 2009. At launch, the school offered pilot courses to girls from consortium member schools, but currently, any girl in the world can take courses with OSG. The school offers full-year courses and semester courses.
