Preparing young women for success in the 21
st century is a complex and challenging educational endeavor. More than ever, our students need to become confident, accomplished, and articulate leaders. Fortunately, Sacred Heart schools have a 220-year history of educating women to be agents of change - transforming themselves and their world for the better.
We know that girls learn differently than boys. Girls thrive in Stuart’s single sex setting: their voices are heard and our faculty know how they learn. Our small setting allows teachers to develop one-on-one relationships with each and every girl. Our community works together to provide every opportunity to advance our girls’ success.
Here at Stuart, we know that today’s rigorous education involves much more than mastering content - today, content is available at the click of a mouse, or tap of a finger. Our students must be able to ask the right questions, and identify the problems that need to be solved. They must think critically, collaborate effectively, possess initiative, adaptability, and curiosity, analyze information and communicate effectively. To help our students acquire these 21st century skills, Stuart’s talented faculty construct curricula environments and opportunities that encourage our students to explore and discover across academic disciplines, whether it's science, technology, engineering and math - or language arts, drama, fine arts, world language, and athletics.
Students today demand relevancy: our girls want to see connections between what they are learning and how they can make a difference in the world. We give our students the power to drive their own learning in a highly collaborative environment, rich with opportunities to dialogue and problem-solve with each other and with their teachers.
Expanding beyond Stuart’s walls, we encourage our girls to learn and collaborate through academic exchanges around the world, with Stuart’s Sacred Heart connections.
To accomplish these dynamic educational goals, we are a technology rich school. Every girl in Grades 6 through 12 has an iPad2. Stuart believes in harnessing girls’ passion for technology to expand their interests and stimulate learning in today’s mobile, networked environments.
We teach our girls to be comfortable navigating a richly diverse world. Through lively classroom discussions, religion, politics, culture and ethnicity are woven into all aspects of learning, helping our girls construct a value system they can articulate and live.
For over 200 years, Sacred Heart women have been educated to a personal and active faith, a deep respect for intellectual values, a social awareness that impels to action, the building of community and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.
Stuart continues this legacy, offering a challenging and innovative curriculum coupled with superb teaching. We produce accomplished, committed young women whose confidence, global perspective and passion for justice will transform the world.
Sincerely,
Dr. Patty L. Fagin
